Joseph’s Riverport BBQ

This was our second attempt to visit Joseph’s. The first time they closed early because they ran out of food. A good sign if you ask me but some of the reviews on Yelp say otherwise. Folks need to keep in mind this is a small establishment that uses fresh ingredients and when it’s gone, it’s gone. If you want everything all the time I recommend Chili’s. That being said, I had to dial back my own expectations when we visited because Joseph’s was out of turkey and catfish. Like I tell my 4 year old, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and you may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

In this case I ordered ribs and sliced brisket, fried okra and fries. Not the most balanced meal, I know. The husband also ordered ribs but went for the burnt ends. He said he hasn’t had any this good since he lived in Kansas City. The rest of the family was happy with their meal too. The swamp fries were a hit and could have easily fed 2 people. Our daughter loved the ribs since they were not overly spicy, just really tender. The sliced brisket was much juicier than others I have had. The beans were really tasty. We brought home a couple slices of pecan pie because we were all too full to enjoy them there.

The place was clean, modestly furnished and we were provided good service. It’s a walk-up counter to order and you seat yourself.

I would definitely visit again. We brought family from out of town and they got a true BBQ experience that met and exceeded our expectations. Remember, if Joseph’s is out of your favorite thing I can assure you that you won’t be sorry if you try something else. In fact, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
