Marshall Public Library

We traveled here pretty light and what we did keep was locked in a storage unit hundreds of miles away. One of the things we missed the most were our daughters books. We were all missing that part of our nightly routine and without our books we were subjected to nightly dance parties to the Greatest Showman soundtrack.

We visited our local library and felt welcomed right away. The children’s section has a wide variety of age appropriate reference books including her favorite subject – dinosaurs. The picture books are plentiful and we had so many options to choose from. They do book bundles on different subjects and I think that’s such a good idea if you are walking in feeling overwhelmed with where to start.

There are puzzles, a puppet show area and educational computers set up for the kids to explore. Pick up a pamphlet for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge. It’s a great way to keep track of what your child reads and they get small rewards for tracking their progress along the way.
Ms. Felicia is in charge of the children’s section and she is dedicated, patient and truly invested in our communities kids. I really can’t say enough good things about her. Every Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am she puts on story time with songs and interactive elements for the kids. There is a craft offered immediately after. On the 4th week she puts on a free play session with play dough, building blocks, instruments, drawing and so much more. Ms. Felicia obviously takes pride in what she does and we are oh so grateful to her.

As new members we are limited to how many books we can check out at a time but our daughter did get her very own library card which she is proud of. I visited the “grown-up” side and I didn’t have a ton of time to browse but they did have the book I was looking for. If you haven’t visited your local library it’s a great rainy day activity and you will be pleasantly surprised by the different activities offered.
